Research Global magazine is produced by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and is dedicated to the development of international collaboration amongst the research management community. The magazine provides regular information, analysis and networking opportunities to individual practitioners and their institutions

Why is research management important?

Research management guides, directs and oversees the many opportunities that universities have to maximize the impact of their research. It includes assistance in identifying new sources of funds, presenting research applications and advice on costing projects and negotiating contracts with external sponsors. It incorporates project management and financial control systems. It also involves help in exploiting research results - through technology transfer and licensing or dissemination to wider society.

These issues have a genuinely global dimension. In countries and universities throughout the world, policies have developed quickly in the past decade. Few believe that they have yet found perfect solutions. The problems they are seeking to address are common ones. Finally, an increasing proportion of research also involves international collaboration - making common systems and approaches necessary.
